Hae Kyung Lee & Dancers is entering its Sixteenth season under the artistic direction of founder and choreographer Hae Kyung Lee. A solo artist for more than ten years, Ms. Lee’s choreography explores the aesthetic means of expression as they relate to a unified reflection of human existence. The spiritual strengths of Korean ancestry with the sensibility that is uniquely contemporary and Post Modern. Using the human body as expression of movement, her works traverse the extremes of stark minimalism and high voltage energy. Essential to her creative process is each dancer’s integrity and individualism. The company has collaborated on diverse projects with such well-known artists as composer Steve Moshier, composer/musician Carl Stone, Robert Een, filmmaker Allen Yamashita, photographer Eric Lawton, set designer Aki Chien, Chris Acebo and Bob de Young.
A longtime collaborator is lighting designer Stephen Bennett who, for the past 17 years, has created provocative and innovative technical direction for all of Ms. Lee’s work. Hae Kyung Lee & Dancers were invited to perform in festivals such as the Soho Arts Festival in New York, Universitaet Mainz, Germany, Belluard Bollwerk International (BBI) Festival in Fribourg, Switzerland, Festspielhaus Hellerau in Germany, the World Festival of Sacred Music, Tanzwoche Festival in Dresden, Germany, the Getty Museum, the John Anson Ford Theatre and the ODC Theatre in San Francisco the ChangMu International Dance Festival and at the LG Arts Center in Seoul, Korea.
